Building a more affordable Mississauga.

We’re facing some big challenges in the city we love. People are struggling to make ends meet, housing is becoming out of reach for too many, and things are changing fast. Mississauga is about to pick a new Mayor, and we need someone who has the energy and policy track record to tackle these issues head on and build a better future for Mississauga.

As Mayor, Alvin will bring the energy and fresh ideas we need to tackle the issues most important to you.

Fair Affordability for our city

The cost of living in Mississauga is soaring. Home prices have more than doubled over the last decade, the cost of rent went up 10% in 2023 alone, and the cost of food, gas, and everyday essentials continues to climb. Young professionals looking to call Mississauga home, seniors looking to age in place, families with kids like mine, are all feeling the price of everything go up and there does not seem to be any relief.

A lot of people are going to be renewing their mortgages in 2024 and 2025 at a higher interest rate than they’re paying now — this is adding anxiety and pressure to family budgets that are already being squeezed.

I have a plan to take on the affordability crisis in Mississauga, providing relief to everyone who calls Mississauga home, while stabilizing costs moving forward.

  • Freezing Property Taxes for All

Help residents manage the high cost of living by keeping the City’s residential property tax increases at 0% until 2026.

  • Lowering Property Taxes for Seniors

Provide residents 65 years or older with a property tax rebate of $420 if their household income is lower than $60,000.

  • Supporting Small Businesses

Reduce property taxes for small businesses by 15%, add support for local entrepreneurs and start-ups.

  • Free Swim and Skate for Kids

Remove the fee for drop-in swim or skating at City facilities for children aged 12 or under.

  • Reducing Summer Childcare Cost

Provide free outdoor learning programs at City parks for children aged 6-12 during the months of July and August.

  • “Alvin will keep Mississauga as affordable as possible, and that means not only freezing property taxes but also offering tax relief for lower-income seniors and small businesses. As someone who spearheaded the budget process for Canada’s biggest city, I can say that he has a fully costed plan to get there. Together with his pro-housing policies, Alvin’s responsible budget plan makes him the best person to address Mississauga’s very real cost of living concerns.”

    Former Budget Director,
Office of the Mayor of Toronto

  • “The math adds up in Alvin's fiscal plan! His promise to freeze taxes is funded by securing new housing funding from senior levels of government, drawing down from the City's rainy day reserve fund, and other new revenue sources. This approach allows more than 80% of our Fiscal Stability Reserve Fund to remain in place while providing residents with much-needed relief from tax increases. It is the right thing to do and I stand behind it."

    Joe Horneck
Former Vice President at a multinational bank

  • “Alvin's budget plan invests in the right priorities that are important to all Mississaugans. Families with young kids will benefit from an expanded Play-in-the-Park program, free drop-in swimming and free skating at city facilities. All residents will benefit from a tax freeze while low-income seniors will see a reduction in taxes. These are the right priorities at a time when affordability is the biggest challenge in our society."

Former Director of Policy & Budget, Office of the Minister of Finance
