Overview
In 2014, the City completed the Clarkson Village Study. With extensive input from residents and local businesses, a comprehensive vision for the revitalization of the area was created. The result was a set of planning policies that remain in place today.
It’s been over 10 years since the study was completed and it’s now time to review those policies to see what has worked well and what areas need improvement. The updates will help:
Support growth
Create a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly main street
Enhance Clarkson Village’s rich heritage
Project goals
The general study area includes Lakeshore Road West between Walden Circle and Johnson’s Lane.
As part of this study, we’ll be looking at ways to:
Provide residents with places to walk, shop and access other services
Maintain the area’s vibrant commercial activity
Add more housing and mixed-use buildings that have both residential and commercial space
Add taller buildings in appropriate locations
When complete, the Clarkson Village Study update will result in:
Updated urban design guidelines
Amendments to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law
Public engagement
During the study process, we want to hear from residents, businesses, community groups and other interested parties to understand the opportunities and limitations.
